Tuesday Couch Potatoes | Insanity & Delusions

I am opening my blogging day by sharing a movie with the prompt "Insanity and Delusions" for Tuesday Couch Potatoes.

The Lodger (2009). A movie with two plots merged into one: First plot is about the couple letting a man rent their small lodge in their compound, the other a detective trying to chase a serial killer imitating Jack the Ripper. The film starred Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, Simon Baker, Shane West and Rachel Leigh Cook. Adapted from the novel "The Lodger" by Marie Belloc Lowndes, this was 2009 version directed by David Ondaatje.

I got to watch this movie through my sister's boyfriend's iPod. That time I didn't exactly know what the movie was about, but decided to watch it - any movie is okay for me. I was surprised how good the movie was because it was filled with suspense and it made me curious about who was the serial killer imitating Jack the Ripper (of London, late 1800s). I haven't watched any of the other versions (the famous one I think was the one made by Alfred Hitchcock), so I can't compare this one to the others, but I will really say that I did love this movie. I totally was surprised how "insane" the wife was - all the while I thought she was just a neglected wife.

In the end, the movie didn't say who was the one making the crimes. Was it the lodger or the wife? Was the lodger for real, or was he just part of the wife's delusions? These sort of hanging questions were something that made the movie memorable. :)

Other choices for this prompt include: Psycho (1960), Misery (1990), Shutter Island (2000), and Sybil (2007).

By the way, Kikamz, the host of Tuesday Couch Potatoes is giving away one Blu-Ray and one DVD, which is something I am excited about. Since there will be one winner for each prize, I thought of two titles I want to own.
March of the Penguins (2005). A docu-movie following the life of the Emperor Penguins, this was one movie not shown in the Philippines (if it was I failed to watch it), and something I haven't seen yet. When I watched the trailer while watching a different movie at a cinema, I was instantly drawn into it, as I do find the penguins really fascinating creatures. This movie was also released in the Philippine video stores dubbed in Tagalog by Sharon Cuneta ("Penguin, Penguin, Paano Ka Ginawa"), but of course I wanted to own the original one with Morgan Freeman as the narrator.
The Notebook (2004). Simply because it's one of my most favorite movies, but I still don't own a copy. :)

I don't know if one person can win both prizes (after all, the name/s will be drawn), but given the chance of owning just one of these two titles, I'd go for "March of the Penguins" because "The Notebook" is still available in different video shops and I can buy it for myself, but the Penguins, I seriously can't find it anywhere. Whether it's Blu-Ray or DVD, even VCD or a downloaded copy, I really hope to see that penguins docu-movie.
