Movie Date with Mom and Sis

02 January 2011

We pretty much lazied the whole first day of the year, so for this day we decided to go out. Mom wanted to watch a movie, and since it was still the Metro Manila Film Festival (second week), we just chose one from the selection. While deciding which to watch, we found ourselves having a little dilemma - mom wanted to watch "Ang Tanging Ina (Last Na 'To)," while my sister wanted to watch "Rosario." I honestly wanted to watch "Rosario," but I didn't want to let my mom down, so I went with her choice. In the end mom came up with a good compromise: watch both movie.

Checking the schedules, we first watch "Ang Tanging Ina (Last Na 'To)." It won the film fest Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director (and some more)... and the movie revolves around a family raised by a single mother. It was a comedy film - doing parodies of some well known movies and events (like the way Ms. Philippines answered her question in 2010 Miss Universe). It was a good laugh, but seriously, I cannot get the logic of it winning major awards in the film fest - just pointing out my opinion.

When we got out of the cinema, we walked over to the next one to watch "Rosario." The two movies were shown 20 minutes apart, and with us eating popcorn while watching the first movie, we felt we could still watch another movie and just eat late lunch after. I rarely see Filipino movies set in the olden days, so this movie really got me interested (as well as the hoopla in the awards night). They said this movie should have won the "Best Picture," "Best Actress," and "Best Director" categories, but it didn't. Comparing this movie to the other, I say this one deserved the awards more. The only thing I didn't like about this movie is its quite slow pacing.

With Mom and Sis

It was already past 3PM when we got out of the cinema. Eating nothing but popcorn, all of us were really hungry, so we ate in one of the food places a floor below the cinema. Mom and sis both had rice meals, while I went with lasagna.

It was the first time I got to watch two movies at a cinema. Watching it with my favorite girls made it more wonderful.
