01 - In Disguise
Urbiztondo Beach - San Juan, La Union
29 Ocotber 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
I was at the beach to watch the first day of the Surfing Break, an annual sports festival held every last weekend of October. It has been my yearly tradition since my dad was buried at a cemetery in the same town - hitting two birds with one stone. Anyway, right after the opening ceremonies, I saw Jollibee walking along the shore. It was really funny and amazing to see him there - it's like seeing Ronald McDonald in the beach.
After a few hours, I saw a group of men - staffs of the fast food chain Jollibee, and two of them were carrying a big plastic bag with the bee costume inside. Who among them was under the costume when I saw the mascot in the shore? I don't know. :)

02 - Crisp

From Zoobic Safari, we went to a Duty Free shop, and mom just placed some imported food items in our cart. My siblings and I have once collected Pringles tubs, and me seeing the jalapeno flavored one made me ask mom if I can get it. She gladly let me put one in the cart, and I took this picture right before my siblings and I shared it. I only ate a few - I just wanted to taste it, and since I already told myself I won't eat junk foods anymore, having a taste was already enough for me.

03 - Fall Colors
09 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
I first posted this picture on Ashley's Photo Scavenger Hunt, and since she is including some items from Kristi's Photo Hunt Challenges, it was a good way of finishing the hunt as quick as possible. We don't have fall season here in the Philippines, so I just found a subject with orange/yellow hues since it represents the fall season. These are vegetarian noodles and bowtie pasta, by the way.

04 - A Jack O'Lantern
Vigan Plaza Hotel - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
My friend Ria and I felt the time we will be having in Vigan City would be way too short, so we decided to check different hotels we passed by. Actually, we were already certain that we would just travel home after dinner, but when we passed by the Vigan Plaza Hotel, we still went inside, just to inquire. It was at the concierge desk where I saw this cute decoration, and while my friend talked to the staff, I took pictures. :)

05 - A Shot From the Ground
Zoobic Safari - Subic Freeport Zone, Zambales
23 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Part of the Zoobic Safari was visiting the serpentarium - a location devoted to different reptiles. One of the animals that took my interest was this lizard, which blended well with the color of the soil. I tried to take a picture with my camera leveled on the ground, but it didn't look good, so I just tilted my cam a bit.

06 - A Landscape
Bantay, Ilocos Sur

{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Whenever I travel to Vigan City, I always try to take a picture of the landscape from the Quirino Bridge. However, there was a new bridge where motorists pass by, so aside from the great earth and water formation, I can now take a picture with the bridge as well. I took this from the bus' window, which is why there were some reflections showing.

07 - A Fall Tradition
Bacnotan Public Cemetery - Bacnotan, La Union
29 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Since we don't have any fall season here, I just interpreted this item as a tradition we celebrate at this time of the year. November 1 is the All Saints' Day, which is when people go to the cemeteries to offer candles, flowers, foods, and prayers for their departed loved ones. I visited the cemeteries early this year, as I have to come home early, too. I took this picture while I was looking for my paternal grandparents' graves.

08 - Books
14 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
A picture I specifically took for Girls Talk meme, topic was about Suspense/Thriller books, and since it jived with the Halloween theme, I decided to use this image for this item. I don't have much books, but I am really looking forward in developing my reading habit.

09 - Dining
Gradpa's Inn - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Sony Ericsson K800i}
Thanks to a blog friend, I was able to learn about a good place to eat at in Vigan City. I took this picture while eating lunch, just to capture the environment where Ria and I were having lunch. I loved the look of this inn and restaurant. I sure hope to check in there sometime in the future.

10 - Child / Children
Quezon Avenue, Quezon City
07 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
My brother and I took the jeepney going to the Manila South Harbor to see the Galeon Andalucia. At a traffic stop, two kids entered the jeepney, one danced, and this one sat by the entrance and provided music using tin cans as his percussion instrument. I don't know how and why these kids would do this, but I do hope they don't put themselves in danger by hopping by different jeepneys just to provide entertainment in exchange for some alms.

11 - Faces Formed in Nature
Padre Burgos House - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
I wasn't able to find faces in plants, flowers, and all other forms of nature, but I did see this - a very old telephone at the Padre Burgos House in Vigan. Well, wood is part of nature, right? :D

12 - Tilt Shift Photography
St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish - Luna, La Union
28 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Second day in La Union was a day devoted to church hopping in different towns in the province. First church we visited was this one, and seeing that the gate to the choir loft was open, Ria and I decided to climb up to give ourselves a different vantage point of the church.
This image was processed through the Tilt Shift Maker, since I cannot create the same effect on GIMP.

13 - B/W with Selective Coloring
Tong Yang Shabu-Shabu Restaurant - SM City Fairview, Quezon City
19 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
A bowl of shabu shabu my sister cooked while dining at Tong Yang. I plated this one by taking some of the ingredients in the pot. Am not a big shrimp eater, but I still placed one in my bowl because it was just a good embellishment in my bowl of noodles.

14 - Bokeh
Bacnotan, La Union
28 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
While walking around the neighborhood, I saw this plant and thought I'd take a picture. For a point and shoot camera, I was quite impressed at how it was able to focus on the flower and turn the background into bokeh.

15 - Best Picture Taken on October 23rd
Zoobic Safari - Subic Freeport Zone, Zambales
23 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Well, the "Close Encounter" part of the safari wasn't lit well, making me up the ISO of my camera to capture the tigers well. This image in particular wasn't really that beautiful, but what made it the best picture I captured for this day was that I was able to put my hand real close to the cage, and these tigers didn't angry at me.

16 - Something From the Kitchen
Padre Burgos House - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
This is how Filipinos cook back in the olden days - using clay stoves, clay pots, and wood fire. The clay pots weren't widely used anymore (but some still use it and some Filipino restaurants still serve traditional Filipino foods in this earthenware), but people - especially those living in the countryside still use wood fire to cook their foods even up to this day.

17 - Something Vintage
Padre Burgos House - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
One great thing about visiting museums is seeing stuff used by people back then. This very vintage sewing machine I saw in one of the rooms in Padre Burgos House.

18 - Something Creepy
Calle Crisologo - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
While eating dinner at Cafe Leona, my friend Ria realized she still has to buy one souvenir item, so after dinner, we walked back to Calle Crisologo. We were about to leave when we saw the Halloween Street Parade was about to pass by and it made us stay for a while to watch the parade. So many people wearing Halloween masks and costumes, but this one creeped (spell check) me most!

19 - Something Golden
Urbiztondo Beach - San Juan, La Union
29 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}
Golden sunset... that's what I saw for this day. One of the very few pictures I took before Ria and I called it a day. It has been a great day at the surf site. We didn't surf, but we sure did enjoy watching the surfers and skim boarders!

20 - A Self Portrait
31 October 2010
{Sony Ericsson K800i}
I got home from an overnight bus trip from Vigan City nursing a headache. When I woke up, I realized I still have to take a self portrait, so I powdered and gave my face some colors and quickly took this picture. Oh, how oily my hair can be! :)
Hope you liked my take on this month's hunt... if you want to check other interpretations, please check out Kristi's Photo Hunt Challenges. Happy new month!
