One of the original members of the clique transferred to a different school, so basically they just adopted me into the group. It was difficult for me at first, but all was fine. I guess I was just really quite the emotional one, thinking they didn't really like me in the group.
Anyway, that school year, I had two crushes - one was our new classmate, the other, my brother's classmate. Both are cute guys, and even if guys in general didn't take notice on me, my classmate crush became a very good friend of mine; we even called each other best friends, and it became a little subject in one of our classes (boy-girl platonic relationships). One of my barkada had a crush on him, too, which was really funny. One of the most memorable lines I have spoken was when we were cleaning one of the rooms, and we got to fight over a piece of cloth, and I uttered the words, "Eh mang-aagaw ka naman kasi talaga eh!" It made our adviser laugh hard - because she knew I wasn't just speaking about a piece of cloth. Well, I was really speaking about the piece of cloth, but I guess digging deep, it really had some meaning to it. She and I are still friends 'til now (her daughter's my inaanak), and every time we recall this incident we just couldn't help but laugh.
Some more memories from 2nd year High School:
- During the school's foundation day, there were some contests, one of which was the "Dessert Making Contest." It was a very great contest for us - the whole class was united, and our adviser was the mastermind of it. We prepared fruit salad served on pineapple bowls, which our adviser carved carefully. For the salad itself, she added some mayonnaise to it. We were apprehensive at first, but we did win the contest, and we all could just say it was because of the mayonnaise. :)
- It was the time the school was having a bad case of "personality crisis," changing the uniforms while letting some students wear the old ones.. it resulted to a very bad class picture - they took it on a Monday, when the female students can opt to wear the white gala uniform. Imagine having three different uniforms for one class picture?!? It looked as if we weren't from the same school. Hahahaha.
- It was the time the Beatles were making another comeback, and it seemed everyone in the school had a thing for the band. I have been a fan of the Beatles since way back, but the influence they had on me was the guitar playing. I had this classmate who's so good with the guitar, and every now and then he would take his guitar in school and he would play Beatles' songs from cover to cover - he had this songbook (published by Jingle) - he'd play, I'd sing (since we're basically the only two people in the class who knows some of the not so popular tunes.
- During the school's Acquaintance Party, there was basically one song not allowed to be played, I think the title of the song was "Angelina." However, it was still played, and the teachers had no choice but to finish off the party. Booo...
- While in the subject of songs... biggest song that year would have to be "Always," as danced by the Universal Motion Dancers. :D
- We also had the CAT initiation rites, which was really tough. My body ached so much, and I really couldn't forget the moment I had to take the candy from the mouth of someone next to me and pass it mouth to mouth to the other. We had a lot of bruises and scratches, and my brother, who was promoted to be the platoon leader could only laugh at me.
- I learned how to sew using a sewing machine... but for my Technology and Livelihood Economics class, I let my mom sew my sleeveless blouse and pencil cut skirt because she's the best when it comes to this kind of project.
- The school first had their computer classes. It has got to be one of the most interesting things I had to learn... but all were so basic, and computers were running in DOS mode! :)
- The most embarrassing moment of my life happened this year - after eating lunch, my barkada and I decided to go to the canteen to buy some sampaloc candies (which was a very big hit that time). As we got out of the room, I slipped because I stepped on a banana peel, which one of our classmates threw (obviously the peel wasn't disposed good). Slipping in itself was already embarrassing, but what was more embarrassing was that I slipped in front of three guys: my crush last year, my guy "best friend," and brother's classmate, which was my current crush. Sigh...
