August 2010 Photo Hunt Results

This month, I wasn't (or should I say, I DIDN'T) take the time to go out, so I wasn't able to hunt the items. Halfway through August, I actually already put up the white flag because in the many instances that I hoped to go out, I just didn't do what I needed to do. Yesterday, my friend Halie asked me how was my hunt and our short chat made me realize I still have some fight inside me and that I wasn't late yet. Although, two of the items here were from the past, just because I cannot take a picture of those anymore. Here are my results for this month's photo hunt:

01 - Flag

The very reason why I wanted to go out was so I could take a picture of the Philippine flag waving proudly in the sky. The rains have prevented me from going out, and because I felt lazy as well. Yesterday, while trying to think how am I going to hunt for the flag, I realized I have an old planner that has this sticker. It was something I had from college days, given by the most famous fast foods in the country (Jollibee). The words "Ang Sarap Maging Pilipino" meant, "It's great to be a Filipino." With all the bad vibes about the country the past month, I still could proudly say Ang Sarap Maging Pilipino.

Trivia about the flag - It is the only flag that would mean different if put up in a wrong way. Blue over Red is the right positioning, but if the whole country puts red above blue, it means a war is going on. The Philippine flag may look simple, but each of the colors and designs has its meaning, even the rays on the sun.

My cat Orange-y loves this particular seat in the house; it is where he sleeps all day. I played with him put the pig stuffed toy beside him, and was amazed to see him hug the toy. :)

A picture I took while walking around the neighborhood as part of my fitness program. It's not healthy, I know... but I also jog in my flip flops, as I don't own any closed shoes.

One of mom's best friend gave us some chocolates, and one of those was a small tube of Mini M&Ms. Since I can't eat chocolates (and I don't eat chocolate candies, too), I just lined them up for a picture.

Panagbenga 2010

First of the two "from the vault" picture. Taken during the Panagbenga Festival, the wrapped around cloth worn by these girls in their hips were handwoven cloth made by the Igorots, an ethnic tribe from this part of the country. Up until now, these cloths were made by hand using traditional weaving contraption made from wood.

This was the last thing I thought about. About 9PM last night, I was checking the list, and I totally neglected this item. I was chatting with K that time, and asked him what would be the first thing to enter his mind if I say "contrast," and he said "Black and White." On a rainy night, I went out of the house and took this flower from a neighbor's garden as my subject. I used a black cloth as a background.

Cappuchoco Crepe

On this particular day, the family went out to eat dinner, and we decided to eat some crepes for dessert. I didn't want to, but I just couldn't resist it. This was my choice of crepe - the Cappuchoco Crepe. In it was a scoop of coffee ice cream topped with whipped cream, sprinkled with brownie bits, chocolate powder, and toasted almond slivers, and swirled with chocolate sauce. It was so delicious!

I don't know if this was a wasp, but the minute this critter landed on our chopping board, I just knew I had to take my camera and take a shot.

A close up shot of my late father's now rusted dumbbells. We cleaned a part of the house and we saw the dumbbells, and since my own dumbbells were just 2lbs each, seeing these ones weighing 5lbs each (2.5lbs per end) was just something I needed. Though already rusted, the handles were still very okay, so I can still use this as part of my fitness program.

The last picture I took for this hunt, and I took this around 11:45PM, just a few minutes before the "cut off." This was a little candle lamp shade, and I decided to take a picture of this because it reminded me of a homily given by a priest ages ago, "No matter how small a candle is, it can light up a whole room." Something that could be taken literally or metaphorically, depending on how you will reflect about it.

My initial thoughts about this was to take a picture of the recycle icon on a Starbucks cup. However, I didn't go out, so I had to hunt food containers in the house for that recycle icon. Happy was I to find this - in one of the tumblers of Chef Tony's popcorn, which was given to us by our neighbor. Not a good picture, as the label of the popcorn was stuck into the icon and I just scrubbed the label off.

Some people don't really go to the big supermarkets to buy their foods and other small home items, instead, they go to the public market and just buy their goods there. This was one of the many stores near the market just outside of the neighborhood. It sells rice, pasta (of different kinds), junk foods, juices, bread spreads and a whole lot more.

This was a hurdle for me yesterday, and was actually a reason that I might not be able to complete the hunt. I was brushing my teeth when I thought about the Parker ball point pen, and indeed, it had an arrow! :)

I first thought of clipping some dried squids in the clothesline, but I wasn't able to see some in the nearby market, so I just took a picture of this kind of dried fish known locally as "tuyo," literally meaning "dry."

18 - Butterflies

18 - Butterflies
Baluarte - Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
06 March 2010

The second of two items "from the vault," this was taken during my last trip to Vigan City.

It rained here everyday, so I wasn't able to see a butterfly. I did see some flyers, but some were bees, others were dragonflies, and most were moths.

19 - Heart Shaped Clouds

The very reason that made me still run for the hunt. I was feeding the cats their lunch when I looked up and saw some formations. Actually, this wasn't my original heart shaped clouds, I first saw a scalloped shaped clouds and just made a "V" sign using my fingers to complete the cloud formation. However, it was poorly shot and because it was windy, the scallop shaped clouds just disappeared. Luckily, I looked up again and saw this. I just drew an outline to highlight the heart, but if you wanna see the original picture, please click HERE.

As a Catholic, the image of the crucified Jesus Christ was something very important. It represents how God loved the people that He gave His only son, and this represents how Jesus Christ loved the humanity by taking all their sins into his shoulders, exchanging his life to save the people. In times of troubles, we Catholics really look up to God and Jesus Christ to get some strength.

Wee! despite the two dug up photos, I think I did well this month! Imagine, 10 items hunted on the last day? Great great great! If you want to take a look at how the others did their hunt, please check the Photo Hunt Challenges site HERE.
