My Independence Day Celeb

About a few weeks ago, our desktop PC suddenly died (without showing any premonition) and I was left with nothing to do. Now that I am back online, I will just rewind a bit and talk about some of the things during the time I wasn't around.

Lunch at Buckaroo's

12 June 2010

It was Independence Day, but because we cannot take part of the programs organized by the government, we just went to the mall to eat out. Our choice of restaurant for this time was Buckaroo's, and aside from the foods we personally chose, we also had a small sized pizza to share. My food was okay, but after a few bites in my burger, I seriously hope I should just had a pasta dish. I guess I was never a burger person after all.

After the lunch, we were supposed to do groceries, but mom and I also wanted to watch a movie. Brother didn't want to watch a movie, so mom and I just did.

Cinema Ticket

Our choice of movie was "Emir," the first Filipino musical movie. It followed the story of a country girl who worked in the middle east as nanny to a child, who is the son of the shiek. The movie was entertaining - it gave viewers a peek into the life of a Filipino working abroad, and understand that even if these people give off good life to their family in the Philippines, they, too, had their share of struggles.

I wasn't a big fan of musicals before, until I watched RENT. Since then, I have come to take interest in this kind of movies, and to be able to see one made by Filipinos, I was proud. I was slightly teary eyed when they showed bits and pieces of the Philippine culture, and because my father was Ilocano, I was able to understand some of the words they spoke. It was just a shame that the government really didn't give it much of a hype - movies like this one really deserved to be watched by every Filipino.

The movie lasted 2 and a half hours (the story was quite long and the songs made it longer), and while watching I was already complaining about my lower back. Back in Feb/March, I had a very painful ache in my lower back that lasted for months, and a few days after I was healed, the long hours sitting while we were on the road home from Antipolo triggered the pain again. Mom and I were still able to do grocery shopping, but the heavy goods seemed to add more pain that I couldn't get out of the jeep when we went home! The pain was much worse than it was before, and my mom could only console me to at least help with the pain.
